EVERLAST DROPS NEW SINGLE COVERING JOHNNY CASH’S “FOLSOM PRISON BLUES”

After 4 years Grammy - winning artist Everlast, finally drops his new album, Love, War And The Ghost Of Whitey Ford, on September 23rd, 2008.  His second single released from the album is an updated cover of the late Johnny Cash’s  “Folsom Prison Blues”. The song has an iconic country style that embodies Johnny Cash, however, Everlast adds his own hip-hop spin. Everlast, part of the early 90’s hip - hop group House Of Pain, combines the “Folsom Prison Blues” with a sampling of Cypress Hill’s hit single “Insane in the Brain” to make for a potent mixture of country, folk and hip - hop.

Everlast wanted to create an album that touches on his past and present musical interests and abilities. The single keeps the integrity of Johnny Cash while also incorporating Everlasts’ own style.

Of Everlast’s take on his father’s song, John Carter Cash states, “My father made his own rules in music and respected those who did the same.  Artists like Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson- he took under his wing and stood behind their art, endorsing it with his word and friendship.  Everlast’s take of Folsom Prison Blues is the kind of thing my father would have loved.  It holds true to the original spirit of the song, paying due tribute, certainly.  At the same time it is exciting and new.”

Everlast, a 2008 Emmy nominee, is currently on a North American tour (see dates below). For more information on Everlast, the new album and his tour dates visit www.myspace.com/theofficaleverlast.com.
